Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter is a social justice movement that has emerged in response to the deep-seated issues of systemic racism and violence directed towards Black individuals. Its primary objective is to raise awareness about the unequal treatment and structural disadvantages faced by Black people, particularly within the realms of law enforcement and the criminal justice system. The movement advocates for racial equality, comprehensive police reform, and an end to racial profiling and police brutality. By addressing the root causes of racial injustice, Black Lives Matter strives to cultivate a society that values, respects and safeguards the lives of Black individuals.

On May 25th, 2020, the world saw the tragic murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. The circulation of harrowing footage depicting Officer Derek Chauvin subduing Floyd by placing his knee on Floyd's neck while Floyd desperately pleaded for his life caused a global outcry and sparked extensive protests. These demonstrations not only sought justice for George Floyd but also aimed to address the broader issue of racist violence perpetrated by both law enforcement and the public. By uniting in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, these protests served as a powerful testament to the collective determination to combat the enduring presence of racism in our society.
